Chamber Music Festival August 14 to 16th, 2020

We are delighted to bring our festival to Kelowna this summer.  The Kaimerata project is now in its 10th year in Europe and 7th year on Denman Island.  It is the first time we are taking it "off island" in order to share all this beautiful music with you as well.  I was hoping over the past years that some of you would make it out to Denman... but even better if we bring it to you, right?!

The Kaimerata Concerts are designed to make you love music even more.  The concept is "the more you know, the more you love."  I didn't invent this but I believe in it very strongly.  With a little bit of extra information through a few demonstrations and explanations, I intend for the musical experience to be even more powerful.  The idea of keeping the works to those of one composer is for the audience to familiarize themselves more with this composer's language, allowing them to enter in the composer's world even more, to understand more his music, and to appreciate it even more.

Beethoven is our chosen composer this year and what a wonderful occasion to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth.  Catherine and I started the Kaimerata project ten years ago with the complete Sonatas for violin and piano by Beethoven.  This year in Barcelona, we celebrated the 10th Season and were able to perform the last concert the day before all public events were prohibited (March 11th in Spain) because of the coronavirus.  We felt very privileged to not only have been able to finish our series but also to have been able to keep it going for 10 years, starting and finishing with our beloved Beethoven.  All the more pleasure to bring his music to you this summer!

The most difficult job every year is how can we possibly choose the works to be performed?  Or more correctly said, how can we possibly NOT perform so many incredible pieces?  A selection has to me made, unfortunately, otherwise we would have you sitting there all summer, listening to concerts!!

We have decided to divide the three concerts into the three periods of his life.

We will include:

A few early Sonatas for violin and piano

A couple of String Quartets, one early one, one late one

The "Archduke" trio for violin, cello, and piano, dating from his middle period

Perhaps an early String Trio

A late Solo Piano Sonata

Early Beethoven, Friday, August 14th. 7:00 p.m.

Middle Beethoven, Saturday, August 15th.  4:00 p.m.

Late Beethoven, Sunday, August 16th. 2:30 p.m..

Kai Gleusteen, violin

Adrian Pinzaru, violin

Dan Scholz, viola

Beth Root Sandvoss, cello

Catherine Ordronneau, piano
